Mato Grosso could harvest 3,8 million tons of corn more than expectations

March 27, 2012

According to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics, the planting of corn second crop has been completed in the state. This season were planted 2.42 million hectares, compared to 1.75 million hectares in the last year.

The production is estimated around 10,780,000 tons. This means 54.3%, or approximately 3.8 million tons, more than the second crop harvested in the past.

The Institute estimates that 62.0% of the present harvest has been sold since the beginning of March. Prices at high levels led to anticipated sales. In the same period last year, 28.8% of production had been negotiated.
